Why “Semilla”

“Semilla” (se-mee-lia) is the Spanish word for “seed.” Although based in the United States, Semilla focuses primarily upon the Latin world, including Latin America, Spain and the Hispanic people in the United States.

The “seed” appears in many New Testament passages applicable to the nature and role of our organization:

1. Semilla teaches leaders how to think biblically, applying the Bible, the Word
of God, to all things. In the Parable of the Sower, the seed is the Word of God (Luke 8:11).

2. Semilla works with Christian leaders. In the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, the good seed are the children of the kingdom (Matthew 13:38).

3. Semilla sows simple but powerful principles, which can eventually transform nations. Like the mustard seed, it produces a tree which can shelter many birds (Mat 13:32).
4. Semilla teaches “servant leadership” laying down our lives to transform the lives of those we serve. Unless a grain of corn falls into the ground and dies, it will not produce fruit (John 12:24).
