Why Semilla

“Semilla” (se-mee-lia) is the Spanish word for “seed.” Although
based in the United States, Semilla focuses primarily upon the
Spanish and Portuguese speaking world, primarily
Latin America.

In a ministry, the idea of “seed” evokes many useful New Testament
images, applicable to the nature and role of our organization:

1. In the Parable of the Sower, the seed is the Word of God (Luke 8:11).
Semilla teaches leaders how to think biblically, applying the Bible, the word
of God, to all things.
2. In the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares, the good seed is the children of the kingdom (Matthew 13:38). Semilla works with Christian leaders.
3. In the Parable of the Mustard Seed, this small seed produces a tree which can shelter many birds (Mat 13:32). Like a small seed, Semilla sows simple but powerful principles, which have the potential to transform whole nations.
4. Jesus pointed out that unless a grain of corn falls into the ground and dies, it will not produce fruit (John 12:24). Semilla teaches “servant leadership;” laying down our lives to transform the live of those we serve.
